You had us at 'dachshund race': Running of the Wieners returns to Loveland
If dashing dachshunds dance through your head, this might be the event for you.
Running of the Wieners, Loveland’s annual dachshund race, is back for its seventh year on May 19.
The stubby-legged event starts at 11 a.m. at Climb Hard Cider Co.’s production facility, 245 S. Madison Ave. in Loveland. The race — separated into separate heats for mixed-breed, purebred, young, old and special needs dachshunds — will go from 1-4:30 p.m., according to a news release.
It’s free and open to the public. However, if you’d like to enter your dachshund into the race, you must register by May 17 and pay a $5 registration fee per dog for up to three dogs. The fee will be waived for any animal rescues that would like to race adoptable dachshunds.
You can pre-register at runningofthewienersloveland.com.
The races, like previous years, will benefit the Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic. Last year’s Running of the Wieners drew 150 dachshunds and raised more than $1,000.
Trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place mixed-breed winners and medals will be awarded to the top three purebred winners of each division’s final heat.
The purebred winners of each heat will run a final race and be awarded trophies for first, second and third place.
But “every wiener is a winner,” and all participants will be given a participation ribbon.
