LAKESIDE, Ore. – A citizen found 3 puppies dead in a portable animal carrier floating in a lake near a dock Wednesday, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

The citizen spotted the carrier floating in the water near the dock at the Lakeside County Park boat ramp, the sheriff’s office said.

“When the citizen pulled the carrier up he found three dead puppies inside the carrier,” the sheriff’s office said. The citizen called dispatchers at 10:05 a.m.

An animal control officer responded to the scene and found the carrier on the dock with the dogs dead inside.

The puppies “appeared to be small breed, long haired dogs, possibly Dachshund or Chihuahua type dogs. All three were white with brown or black patches. The puppies appeared to be approx three to four months old,” the sheriff’s office said.
