Dead dog found in a container at Emery Park

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) –

A crowded local park was the scene of a disturbing discovery over the weekend as officials look into yet another case of animal cruelty.

Antonio Saiz told KAKE-TV he was taking his son to Emery Park to test out a new dirt bike, but this trip took a gruesome turn the moment Saiz saw something that just seemed out of place.

On the ground near the entrance to the park Saiz spotted a gray storage bin.

It took some effort even for a grown man like Saiz to pry open the lid, he documented what he found on his cell phone with pictures and video.

“Somebody took like a leash and tied it around,” said Saiz.

Inside the bin wrapped in a blanket laid a dead dog.  Saiz said it was possibly a dachshund or similar breed no more than a year old.

The 25-year-old father of two then notified animal control and local police were called in.

If you have any information about this case you are asked to call Wichita Animal Control: (316) 268-8473.

This case comes on the heels of two other local animal cruelty cases that have made headlines across Kansas.

These circumstances of animal cruelty are far too familiar for Wichita Police. In 2017 police investigated 2,404 cases of animal cruelty/neglect.

So far in 2018 more than 860 cases have already opened up.
