Waking Up Martin – Our Senior Dachshund

Martin can’t hear as well as he used to. He sleeps a lot and he’s easily startled. His vision is getting really bad, but he still loves food and loves attention. It feels good to take care of an old dog. They depend on us for everything.

  1. I know this video is old but I still wanted to tell you how touched I am by the level of love and care for sweet Martin. I saw the video of Martin being put to bed and had to come see more. Then I saw that he passed. I don’t know you but I can 100% say that it was very hard for y’all. My little girl, Jill is 11 and I fear the day that is inevitable so I also try to preserve everything possible to keep her happy and healthy for as long as I can. Thank you so much for sharing your sweet moments with Martin!

  2. Our "Liam" is also a senior and sleeps the same way…. well, except for the tongue sticking out 🙂 Love it – thanks for sharing.

  3. I’m so glad you made this video. Great to see others enjoy their Dachshunds as much as I do mine named Hansel who is now 13.

  4. We lost our Dusty just a few days ago. He was 14 and had bad arthritis and skin cancer. He had the same white face and deep sleep as Martin. We love our dachshunds and losing Dusty was absolutely heartbreaking. God put these little souls on earth for us. I truly believe that.

  5. Poor old Martin. Is he still alive? My Misty who passed a yr ago was completely deaf. She slept a lot too. She never had to be woken, she will just get up on her own cuz she knew exactly when Food time was. No matter how old they get always food driven.

  6. Leave him alone! Jeez, he”ll get up when he’s ready. Don’t force his head up and do that if you say he startles easy. Wow

  7. We too, have a senior dachshund; his muzzle is gray, his eyes are getting cloudy, we have to carry him up the stairs and we shamefully spoil him rotten; it will be a very, very sad day when its his time to cross over. But for now, his days consist of car rides, playing tag with his buddies, chewing on sticks, sneaking cat food and soaking up warm afternoon sun rays. He is happy.

  8. My dachshund Snickers(he came with the name) is nearly 15, he’s a full time job(blind-cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, pharyngeal achalasia-feed him upright by hand & hold him upright afterwards, recent stress colitis, unilaterally deaf, heart murmur, etc) caring for, I love every minute of it. I’m so frightened of losing him. He has the same back leg issue when he poops, he sits on his poop. But, until the colitis & 2-3 months of metranidazole, he ran @ Nt! Yours is precious.

  9. You have such deep love in your hands! I can feel the energy from here! Just imagine if we could treat each other & ourselves this way! Let’s do it world!!!
