Oklahoma woman killed by pack of sausage dogs

A US woman has been mauled to death after being set upon by a pack of sausage dogs.

Tracy Garcia, 52, from Oklahoma, was attacked by the seven dachshunds on 10 May, but police have only now released her identity.

The attack occurred on a rural road near the town of Ardmore, in the southern part of the state.

Garcia was near her home when the dogs, who lived on a neighbouring property, attacked her on Thursday evening. The mother-of-two, who worked as a housekeeper, later died of her injuries.

Police officers “shot and killed one dog that charged them” at the scene, KXII reports.

The other six dogs involved in the attack were put down by vets at the owner’s request.

Six appeared to be mixed with an unidentified breed of terrier, and the largest could have been a border collie cross, but all the animals weighed less than 40lb and none were taller than knee-height. “None of the dogs had legs longer than an adult’s hand”, The Ardmoreite reports

“The predominant breed in these dogs is definitely standard dachshund,” Ardmore Animal Shelter’s euthanasia technician Amanda Dinwiddie told local media.

“They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short-legged dogs and their coats.”

Dinwiddie said that the animals were “infested with fleas and ticks”.

“We were cleaning ticks off ourselves all day,” she said. “You can tell they have been living out in the woods.”

The Carter County sheriff’s office is investigating the incident. No charges have yet been filed over the death.
