A pack of sausage dogs has mauled a mother-of-two to death.

The animals attacked Tracy Garcia, 52, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, last Thursday, according to KXII.

Police shot dead one of the dogs when they arrived at the scene after it tried to attack them, with authorities confirming the animals belonged to the victim’s neighbour.

The rest of the pets, which were predominantly a standard dachshund breed, were taken to Ardmore Animal Shelter where they were later euthanised, KTEN reported.

The owner had suggested they be put down.

The mother of the animals was thought to be among the group.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said: ‘This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation.

‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims. This is just a bad deal all the way around.’

Amanda Dinwiddie, who is the euthanasia technician at Ardmore Animal Shelter, added: ‘They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short legged dogs and their coats.’

An autopsy has been carried out on Ms Garcia’s body, with the results yet to be released.

Police have not arrested anyone yet but continue to investigate.
