A 52-year-old woman has been mauled to death by a pack of seven flea-infested dachshunds.

Mother-of-two Tracy Garcia was brutally attacked by the savage dogs – which belonged to her neighbor – near her home outside Ardmore in Oklahoma.

Cops said they shot and killed one of the beasts on Thursday night when it charged at them.

They captured the others, which were put down at the request of the owner.

Six of the dogs are believed to have been mixed with a terrier, but one – the biggest and oldest – is thought to be part-border collie.

Amanda Dinwiddie, a euthanasia technician at Ardmore Animal Shelter, said the 'predominant breed' in the dogs was 'standard dachshund', KXII reported.

She added: 'They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short-legged dogs and their coats.'

Three of the dogs were females and four were males, Dinwiddie explained, while none of them weighed more than 40 pounds and none stood taller than knee-height.

Dinwiddie said they were covered with fleas and ticks and had apparently been living 'out in the woods'

Photographs show that the animals' legs were no taller than a human hand.

The dogs were aged between one and three years old.

Dinwiddie said they were covered with fleas and ticks and had apparently been living 'out in the woods'.

But the animals will not be tested for rabies because 'there's just no reason to go spend the thousands and thousands of dollars,' Dinwiddie said.

The case will be turned over to the District Attorney's office for review, Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said.

Cops and medics were originally called at about 10pm on Thursday.

Deputies were dispatched at 10pm to Banyon Road (pictured), just east of Ardmore, where they found the woman. She later died in hospital

Garcia was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where she later died.

No arrests have been made and police are still investigating the incident.

'This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation,' Sheriff Bryant said, as reported by KTEN.

'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. This is just a bad deal all the way around.'
