Dachshund Breathing Problems

We have taken our Dachshund to several vets, and have showed them this video, and it seems to be conclusive that this IS inward sneezing. Not harmful, just looks scary. He suggested just holding them and loving them, and if it gets really bad, to humidify a room up, like the bathroom, and take them in there.

  1. my toy poodle pup does this too idk what it is?! but vet checked her trachea and said it was strong =s my puppy does it like 2 times a day every day!

  2. Yeh, that sounds like what my dachsund does. But it happens once a day. Let me know as well what your vet says. Thanks, Loving dachsund owner – Glenn

  3. Your dog has something in his noise
wipe your dogs nose that should help and speak to your dog about calming down and one of my mini doxies and my chihuahua do that

  4. Yes, I have a 4 year old dapple and he does it often, although it is not any specific time. I had asked the vet. before and they seemed clueless. We have noticed that when he lays on his back (for me to clip his nails) he has a spasm every time

  5. @13chabelilla my dachshund has been having a rapid breathing then all of a sudden he starts making this noise like he can’t breath its very scary, the vet told me it could be allergies and told me to start giving him benadryl but his rapid breathing still continues and his also taking rimadyl for his pain because his had abscess and not healing from that since January. I don’t know what to do. Is it common for dachshunds to get abscess?

  6. My little terrier used to do this and I would rub his nose real fast and he would begin clearing out his passage ways by sneezing for real and it would be over.. kind of reminded me of why we blow our nose when it feels itchy.

  7. OMG! So glad I saw this. My dachshund Myla does the same thing. She just did it a few seconds ago, and I thought to see Google it and see what it could be. Thank you for posting this. It puts me at ease knowing that it is nothing serious.ย

  8. my doxie just turned 2 and I noticed she does this a lot more frequently. I haven’t been able to record it to show her vet like I was told…but will do so soon. other than that, I did find that it helps when I rub her ear and calm her down by petting her. it scares me coz I dunno what else to do when it does happen ๐Ÿ™

  9. My last dachshund did this, but I remember him doing this at about 10 years and up, but it could of been sooner. The dachshund I have now is 7 months old and she does this at least 1-3x a week. She was just in here doing it now and it worried me so I looked it up online and found this video. She seems fine once she stops, but seems a bit panicked when its happening. She runs to me and looks at me like, "mom please make it stop" so I just hold her or pet her til it stops. ๐Ÿ™

  10. Like Julie Pruiett said – thank you for posting this.ย  My dachshund has been experiencing this for about a week now and the vet is confused but working toward a solution.ย

  11. my dachshund did this three times today! Scared me to death! I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. Thanks for posting your dog doing this. I was researching what might be wrong with her when I found this.

  12. Oh my god thank you so much! My baby started getting like this and it scared the HELL out of me!! I’m glad to know it’s not harmful!

  13. My Bichon has the same issue. It scares the hell out of me. I am seriously concerned as it happened a couple times already. Have to research this. ๐Ÿ™

  14. wow,, thank you for ย sharing.. ive been scared to death… my previous daschund did this, and my new one did it 3 times tonight… i thought he was dying or something…scared meย

  15. My Butter did the same thing, did your baby bleed from the nose? Vets could never figure it out. I put him down in May…he was 15. I miss him so much! Vets kept saying it was allergies. The only thing that would help was a low dose of steroid daily.

  16. My doxie did this frequently as well. Another thing to try is to cover their nostrils and massage the throat. This causes them to breath through the mouth and swallow, which usually cleared it up. This usually worked for my dog.

  17. I have a dachshund that has been doing this for 10 years. Here’s a few things that work for her:
1.Use a harness instead of a collar, it doesn’t push on the throat.
2.while happening, hold the dog upright, so head and chest are above rear-end. While holding her rub the side of her neck under ear, and talk gently to calm the dog down.
3.try putting your finger over her nostrils for a second, sometimes this works immediately
4.hold her a few minutes after stops and do not touch the throat

  18. My Daschund does this when he gets excited and sometimes just when he’s sitting in his bed. Does it mean something is wrong with them or what? I’d hate to spend a ton of money at the vet only to find out there is nothing they can do about it!

  19. My 15 year old Dachshund starting doing the exact same breathing when he was 10-12 months old, still going strong, 4 dental surgeries and can eat 24/7, no worries. MB-
