The saga of Blue Dozer and OJ continues …

You see, OJ is partially blind and relies on Blue Dozer to be his guide dog. According to Christie Chipps Peters, the Director of Richmond Animal Care & Control, they’re pair-bonded besties and have been for four years. It didn’t take long for both dogs to get adopted together, and for a brief moment in time, it seemed that this story was going to have a happily-ever-after ending.

Sadly, things took a turn for the worst when just a few days later, one of the dogs was found wandering on a rural road 100 miles away.

According to The Washington Post, the duo was adopted by a woman on April 22, after seeing a Facebook post about Blue Dozer and OJ. However, days later, a man brought OJ into the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center after he found the poor, blind dachshund stranded on the side of the road by himself. (A microchip revealed OJ’s identity.)

After being contacted by the acting director at the Shenandoah shelter, the woman, who had initially adopted both dogs, said that she only wanted to keep Blue Dozer, and that the shelter could keep OJ. She originally claimed that OJ was being watched by a friend and claimed not to know how he ended up on the side of a road by himself.

It didn’t take long for part two of the Blue Dozer and OJ saga to go viral, as followers of the story took to Facebook and social media to voice their concern and hope that the duo would be reunited.

Fortunately, shelter officials persuaded the woman to give Blue Dozer back to the shelter so he could be reunited with his buddy. The handover happened in a parking lot and soon, Blue Dozer was reunited with OJ back at the shelter.

“I am very glad to announce that both OJ and Blue Dozer have just been reunited and are safely back at RACC,” stated the Richmond shelter’s Facebook post about the dogs’ adoption, separation and finally rescue, on April 25. “We can not account for decisions that are made by citizens after adoption and work diligently to keep our open adoption process successful. In the end, we have to trust people-trust them to love the pets we have cared for, and trust them to do what is best.”

The post continued that the shelter won’t be “doing anything with OJ & Dozer in the next few days other than snuggling them together,” and that they will “keep you posted if and when they are available for adoption.”
