Sausage dog inflated to three times his size thanks to windpipe leak

A sausage dog who ‘blew like a balloon’ thanks to a rare skin condition has been successfully deflated by vets in the UK.

Trevor, a four-year-old dachshund, inflated to roughly three times his size after getting a hole in his windpipe.

The leaking air became trapped under his skin, making him look like he’d been pumped full of helium.

As we learned from a yarn from the BBC, Trevor’s owner Fran Jennings noticed he was quite swollen and suffering with breathing difficulties.

“He’d blown up like a balloon,” Jennings said.

“His whole body was like a blob,” Jennings’ daughter Jessica said.

This photo of the poor fella has since gone viral as his story circulates around the dog-obsessed internet:

His family took him to the local vet, Beech House Surgery in Warrington, where Michelle Coward diagnosed him with sub-cutaneous emphysema – otherwise known as an abnormal collection of air under the skin.

Each time Trevor inhaled, more air leaked into his body.

But thankfully, his family and the team at the veterinary surgery intervened before things got to bursting point.

Trevor went into surgery, with Coward stitching up the hole in his windpipe and medically deflating the poor guy.

And while he’s now a viral superstar, life for Trev has gone back to the way it was.

“He's back to his normal self, chasing the chickens and we wouldn't have him any other way,” Jennings said.
