Dachshunds Maul Woman to Death in Unusual Attack
A pack of dachshunds mauled a woman to death last week in Carter County, Oklahoma.
The woman, Tracy Garcia, 52, died from her injuries after being attacked by a neighbor’s seven dogs Thursday evening, KTEN News reported.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said each of the dogs was under 40 pounds in weight and of mixed breed: six standard dachshund and terrier mixes and one border collie mix, according to the New York Post.
One of the dogs charged responding officers, who shot and killed it, KXII reported. The remaining six were euthanized at the request of their owner.
Images of the dogs’ remains reviewed by the Daily Ardmoreiti revealed that none had legs as long as the hands of an adult.
"This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation," Bryant said, KTEN reported. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims. This is just a bad deal all the way around."
All of the animals were heavily infested with ticks and fleas, euthanasia technician Amanda Dinwiddie told KCII.
“We were cleaning ticks off ourselves all day,” she told the station. “They are very covered, you can tell they have been living out in the woods.”
She added that because of the costs involved, coupled with the circumstances, none of the dogs would be tested for rabies.
"If there was any possible issue of them biting someone else then it would've been (done) but the dogs are deceased as well as the victim so there's just no reason to go spend the thousands and thousands of dollars," Dinwiddie said.
