Crate rest therapy for dachshund herniated disc day 1 (am).

This is a educational video we did to try and help other people who are doing crate rest therapy for a herniated disc. The reason we have decided to do crate rest vs surgery is because Pixie was operated 2 1/2 months ago for an other herniated disc and healed 98% and now he has a new disc that has herniated. This is after 3 days of vet crate rest and prevezone. Fist day at home.

  1. My doxie was really disabled with disc problems She could hardly move. We took her to the vet and he gave us 2 options. Crate rest or the operation. We opted for crate rest and although it is a HUGE commitment for 6 months – she is as right as rain again

  2. By the next morning, our Pepper was unable to move his hind legs. He went in for surgery on 11/6, and by 11/8 was moving both legs again, wagging his tail, trying to walk, and in full control of his balder. The surgeon says thinks he will be walking within 2 more days. I’m worried though, because he’s so determined to become completely active again too soon. I don’t want a relapse. And now his housemate is jumping doggie gates to get to him. (Makes me worry about the 2nd dog too. Ugh!)

  3. How did things turn out? I have a little guy who has just suffered with a herniated disc. He was up and walking this morning, though obviously not jumping. I took him to the vet at 9am, at 4:30pm the vet called to tell me the xray shows it’s worse than he thought. By 6pm, he was no longer able to stand up well, and walking has become more than simply labored. I know there are treatments to help him, but I am so upset by this. I would say you have no idea, but somehow I know I would be wrong.

  4. Hello, Please reply to me as Soon As Possible!!!

I have a 6 year old min pin and vet said my pin has Degenerative Disc Disease/Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease. I went with non-surgical option.

So he prescribed my dog 5mg Prednisone(anti inflammatory) 100mg Gabapeptine (for nerve pain Neurontin) 50 mg Tramadol (pain killer) 50 mg Trazodone (anti depresant)

I’ve noticed my dog feels worse with Gabapeptine than without it. He becomes dizzy, rapid eye movement very weird behavior.

Also, my min breathes like he’s hot. His body is trying to cool. I know its a lot of drugs for him, but seems like they all needed.

I was thinking maybe i could replace some drugs give him Valerian drug instead of those hard core drugs that kill his liver.

Please give me advice, maybe a good bed? or a way of walking him, because he runs out the backyard and jumps. He must go to the backyard to pee and poop.

  5. thank you for your videos. Gives us lots of hope. let me ask u a question. Did you remember is the treatment was with steroid base medicine or not ?
