Zoe the Muskoka Dachshund spins around Gravenhurst and has Instagram
GRAVENHURST — Zoe the Muskoka Dachshund rolls in her Gravenhurst hood aggressively making friends.
Zoe was adopted by her parents Graeme Murray and Claudia Larouche from Quebec City in December 2016.
“Nobody wanted her but we were thrilled to find her,” said Murray.
Zoe was born in October 2016, with one arm missing from the elbow down. Her other front leg is non-functional. When she was six months old Murray and Larouche took her to an animal prosthetics company in Toronto. Pawsabillity custom fit a cart with Velcro straps to Zoe’s torso.
“Zoé took to her cart instantly. Though, the fit and set up have evolved over time she is very adaptable,” said Murray
Zoe mostly uses her cart outside and for play, her owners say that it easily comes off for her to sleep or “hang out … she prefers it off to relax and eat.”
Her wheels are custom designed to her needs and 3D printed. Murray said they looked at the local hardware store but had a hard time finding anything that worked.
“I did a little research about front end dogcarts and a dog in a similar situation came up. I shared that concept with my cousin who designs and prints prototypes for work … We modified the design for Zoé’s needs and went from there,” said Murray.
Zoe’s favourite treats are chicken and popcorn, she loves chasing tennis balls and “loves getting treats from the neighbourhood kids.”
“Zoe is pretty chill about life. Her favourite activity Is making friends,” said Murray.
Zoe has her own Instagram page and can be followed at @zoebogartmuskokadachshunds.
