Mini dachshund puppy – first time down stairs

My Mini Dachshund puppy is only 8 weeks old here. Its his first attempt at walking down stairs. As you can see he winged the whole way down. He’s very brave!

  1. You shouldn´t do this. If the pup loses control it will break his legs or back. Puppies shouldn´t walk stairs. It´s very bad for them. Not only for dachsies but for all pups.

  2. Also the steps are quite high. Every time it take a jump to the next step there´s a chance of damaging his spine .

  3. You should never allow to your daschund using the stairs, it’s too dangerous for his spine and he could have serious problem.

  4. I’ve owned dachshunds most of my life and only one had a back injury. If the dog is well bred (my weak-backed one wasn’t) and their weight is kept under control, a few stairs aren’t going to hurt them. Having said that, a vet told me that it’s not so much going UP stairs that’s damaging, it’s coming DOWN. Also, jumping higher distances like on and off furniture and high beds, is potentially more damaging than a few stairs. But hey, try to tell a dachshund he can’t jump on the furniture! Good luck with that! Heh. 🙂  Get a pet ramp or pet steps to place next to their favorite snoozing furniture.

How’s your puppy doing now? Getting big, I bet! 🙂

  5. they look very pathetic and helpless, but they’re just a little shy. climbing stairs doesn’t hurt them until they get older and start having back problems. you shouldn’t let them jump down from very high, they think they’re invincible, but it hurts their little backs.

  6. He’s crying because he is scared of a new thing. My little Wienie Girl is scared of tile floor and does the same thing. Doesn’t mean we are hurting her.
