Mikey the dachshund chases Weasel Ball

Mikey doesn’t let his cart stop him from enjoying his WeaselBall one bit! Go doxie, go!! ___ OWNERS NOTE: Mikey went down almost overnight & was rushed into immediate surgery on 2-18-09. General statistics, immediate action, & an excellent board-certified surgeon gave Mikey a 85-95% chance of regaining normal mobility. Unfortunately, he is baffling everyone & has yet to regain motor or potty function. ___ For more info on disc-disease please visit —

  1. Thanks for giving us hope. Our doggie is semi-immobile, and we have appointment tomorrow with bag surgeon. How does she go to the bathroom?…I’m sorry for repeating question if it’s already been asked…but I’m going to re-read through the comments…now thanks.

  2. my 11 yr old daschund slipped a disc and vet recommended spinal surgery. after research I found complications could make the matter worst. We have now gone a more natural approach and are doing accupuncture and dog wheels. His spirits are much better now and is waiting on his wheels.

  3. Thank you for posting this, my pup is getting surgery right now, and just wanted to see happy puppies just like yours just in case something happens.. thank you

  4. hola podrias por favor poner un video de como hacer la silla de ruedas o como es para hacerle una a mi perrito chico ya q se quedo paralitico en la parte posterior.un saludo y gracias

  5. have anyone seen my honey badger wondering around i’m only 41/2 pounds yet i like to run 40lb honey badger all around. wiener doooog.

  6. Has Fritz had surgery… or are your using "conservative" treatment w/ drug therapy & crate rest? either way, 4 days is far too soon to consider the use of a doggie cart. The disc needs time to heal, crate rest of 6 weeks for surgical & 8 weeks for conservative dogs is the minimum. My other doxie Buster went "down" 6 months after Mikey & 4 wks later he started to regain some feet movement… 8 wks before he could walk mostly on his own & THAT was considered a fast recovery!!

  7. Kudos to you for everything you’ve done for Mikey. But I would trash the Weasel Ball; as you can see it got stuck in his mouth by his canines.
    What’s Mikey like better, balls or squeekies? My doxies are squeekie freaks. 😉

  8. me parace una gran idea lo del carrito para perros discapacitados, pero como hace sus necesidades (nº2) creo que resulta dificil…..

  9. My bad, I missed the bed ‘o squeakies! lol

    My pack (doxies thru akitas) will be adding Mikey to their nightly prayers. And give him a treat for me. 😉

  10. Hi, my dachshund is 4 years old and has a slipped disk which means he can not use his back legs, the vet said surgery ( which we can not afford) or to be put to sleep, but we want to get him one of these carts, currently hes on cage rest the vet has never gave him any treatment tho…any ideas?

  11. Keep it up, Mikey! Our little Dachsie Cooper, whose hind legs have been paralyzed for 3 months, loves balls too. He wants to be active again so badly! Hopefulyl he will be getting a cart soon, so he can once again have fun like this. Can you please tell me where you got the little socks Mikey is wearing. Cooper needs some like that.

  12. potty depends on the level of spinal/disc injury… some potty 100% normally without assistance, but cant walk on their own. Others need to be expressed (squeezed basically) for bladder and/or poops. Mikey still need to have his bladder expresed, but poop just happens. He can attend to both "functions" while still in his wheels. ____
    Hopefully surgery or crate rest + meds (aka conservative care) can help your doxie & none of this will be an issue. {fingers crossed}

  13. Although he rarely gets it "stuck" like that, he NEVER gets to play with Weasel Ball unsupervised… trust me.

    As for his favorites… 1) weasel ball (moves on its own), 2) squeakies (notice dogbed full of them in background), and 3) plain ‘ol tennis balls

    Of course, being a doxie…. food & treats beat out ALL of the above! :o)

  14. Que lindo! A minha ficou assim com 4 anos apenas. Fez cirurgia e tirou os pontos essa semana . Estou a procura de uma cadeirinha bem pequena . Amora e uma Dash mini. Amor da minha vida.!

  15. That ball is actually perfect for dachshunds, any smaller and he would be able to crack it. They’re quite cantankerous towards their toys and have a strong bite for such a small dog. My standard doxie can make a tennis ball do a clicking sound by biting on it so hard. I can barely do that with my hand! >.< lol

  16. There are a number of professional cart manufacturers. My personal preference is for the ones by Eddie’s Wheels, but any properly fitting & properly designed cart can help. Dodger List has a full list of cart manufacturers on their links section… dodgerslist. com/links.htm

  17. I have a cart-dachshund too- he went down immediately at well and my specialist told me that since it was SO severe/sudden that surgery was NOT likely to help (it meant that hardened disc most likely severed spine instead of being able to be moved back? I’m not 100% sure). He noodles around just fine in his cart though! (Eddie’s Wheels, I have a vid on my account if anyone’s interested) Anyway cute video and good luck with your baby 🙂

  18. @mystery964 … we call the ball "weasel" in our house, but the actuall plush part? Umm… well.. that was so shredded in round #1 that he passed over to squeakie heaven (trash can).

  19. This was round #2 of attack-the-weasel-ball. Weasel lost his tail in the un-filmed round #1. Poor Weasel. {giggles}

  20. Love your video! I use those socks on my cart doxie too! They really help! Keep up the great work, hope he’s still on the run 🙂

  21. Our little Fritz became paralyzed 4 days ago due to 4 degenerated discs. This has been so tough. We have decided to see what we can do. The vet is now weaning him off of the drugs and so long as there is no pain, we will be getting him a new set of wheels. It is good to see your Mikey doing so well on his wheels. Any suggestions or moral support?

  22. Hello-
    We would like to know where we can purchase the doggie wheelchair used in this video? Our Doxie ruptured a disc in her back and had surgery but more likely then not she will not regain the use of her back legs. thanks =)

  23. oh heck NO!! as you can see in the video, it is still VERY fun to chase WeaselBall… even if there is no tail.
    Mikey & the other doxies still go *SPASTIC* when they hear me turn it on & set ’em loose… :o)))

  24. Our shih tzu Charlie was diagnosed with herniated discs after injuring himself running up stairs.He was paralyzed.Vets said surgery for $8000. In 4 months time, we opted no surgery, worked with a chiropractor and now a hydrotherapist. No meds after the first 3 weeks or so. We massaged and iced him the first 3 months. He is now able to take about 8 steps at a time. They are wobbly, but he is trying to walk and improving daily! we may get him a cart, but will wait a while. Our amazing pup!

  25. This is so adorable! My doxie myff is paralyzed as of right now… But I have 100% faith in her 🙂 Instagram: myffan

  26. Mikey looks comfortable in his wheelchair. May I know where you got it from or name of the brand? Thank you!
