Delight for dog lovers at sold-out Nottingham pop-up dachshund cafe

Hundreds of dachshunds packed out Nottingham’s Cafe Sobar on Sunday for a pop-up event.

The sold-out dog day brought in more than 200 hundred dachshunds and 700 people to the cafe.

The event, at the cafe bar in Friar Lane, is from the same organisers as the Pug Cafe, which took place in February.

Anushka Fernando, the event organiser who also runs the successful Pug Cafe, said: “We wanted to spread the joy to other dog owners.

“We had lots of dachshund owners coming to us to ask if we could do an event like today – there’s a big dachshund community in Nottingham.

“Sausage dogs love the company of other sausage dogs and we knew we wanted to bring it here because Nottingham is full of dog lovers.

The pooches were treated to a variety of tasty treats including cookies, doughnuts, pupcakes – all dog-friendly and all made from natural ingredients.

And don’t forget the notorious pupuccino – a personalised cup of cream that hit the spot for many dogs attending the event.

Anushka added: “Through our events we make sure we support lots of local charities and work in the community. We want to make sure everyone attending just gets to enjoy what dogs can offer us in our daily lives.”

The event was organised into eight 70-minute slots that started at 8am and ended at 6.30pm.

Sarah Underwood, 33 from Arnold, came with her daughter and dachshund Daisy.

She said: “We were so excited by the event and had to come. Everyone here loves dogs and it’s just good for the soul on a Sunday.

“How can you not enjoy this? Our dog Daisy is having a great time.”

The humans were not forgotten about with a range of cakes, coffees and hot food on offer.

Jason Loftus, manager of Cafe Sobar said: “The event is amazing. It’s extremely busy, extremely happy and a very popular event, everyone is having a great time.

“All our proceeds go to the Double Impact charity so all the profits are so important to us and we’re very happy that we can give to the charity. We certainly put the work in as it’s non-stop all the time today but it’s great fun.”

Double Impact is a charity that helps people who have suffered from drug and alcohol problems.
