CUTE: Little legs to take on big world record tomorrow
WARWICK'S tiniest legs will join a mammoth effort to break a world record for the biggest number of single-breed dogs to walk in unison tomorrow.
Three dashing Dachshunds – Elvis, Velvet and Buck – will walk with over 100 other dogs at Toowoomba's Queens Park as part of a national record breaking attempt.
The event aims to raise awareness about a debilitating genetic illness that increasingly strikes down Dachshunds and can end up costing owners thousands.
Warwick-born event organiser Alanna Jensen-Schubert said Intervertebral disk disease (IVDD) was a growing problem for the breed.

"It can happen at any time and it is very quick, there is no precursor for it. They can be running around one minute and the next minute they go down,” she said.
IVDD causes paralysis in the lower half of Dachshunds and can cost up to $7000 when operations are required.
Ms Jensen-Schubert said many Dachshund owners are unprepared when the illness strikes, but there is help out there.
Devoted 2 Dachshunds Rescue is an organisation that provides support for re-housing and caring for sausage dogs in need.
"People need to know that there are organisations that are out there that can offer help and offer a home,” Ms Jensen-Schubert said.

The organisation can help support sick dogs when owners can't.
Warwick Dachshund owner Danielle Almond said she was looking forward to taking her dogs to the big event.
The current world record is held by Mexico, which had 783 Yorkshire Terriers walk simultaneously around the country.
But Australia is looking to break the record with a sizzle and a pop.
Sister events are being held tomorrow in Brisbane, Moranbah and other parts of the country.
Warwick veterinary nurse Kearna Almond said sausage dogs were becoming an increasingly popular pet in Warwick.
"They are gorgeous dogs and very manageable.”
Ms Jensen-Schubert said Dachshunds were the "breed of the century” with their growing popularity.
The Great Australian Dachshund Walk will kick off at 10am tomorrow at Queens Park, Toowoomba, with participants gathering at the Council designated leash free area.
Anyone with a Dachshund is welcome to join.
