A sausage dog café is coming to Chelmsford – and we're very excited
Chelmsford’s first ever sausage dog café – aimed mainly at people with the tiny pooches – is about to open.
Although you don’t have to have a Dachshund to get in, it definitely helps and priority will be given to those with the diminutive doggies.
The café, which is only a pop-up on certain dates at this stage, will sell food, drinks and treats for both their human and canine customers at The Transition in Chelmsford on Sunday, June 3.
There will be dog-friendly cakes, biscuits and treats as well as the chance to pick up some keepsakes for your pooch.
The Dachshund event has been organised by sausage dog lover Tammy Velissarides, who helps organise walks for Dachshund owners around Essex.
The group meets up at places like Hylands Park where up to 50 to 60 sausage dogs and their owners go for a walk together.
Tammy has her own Dachshund called Wilbur, who is something of a local celebrity and has an impressive 20,000 followers on his own Instagram page. Tammy fell in love with the breed as her mum and grandmother always had sausage dogs when she was growing up and as soon as she could, she got one of her own.
“There is quite a social community for Dachshund owners around Essex and we all like to meet up regularly,” said Tammy, from Chelmsford.
“We heard about a sausage dog café in Surrey but it was so popular that none of us could tickets, so I just said to my husband ‘shall I do one here?’
“I knew Andy who runs The Transition and I knew they didn’t have carpets, so I approached him and he said ‘you’re mad but yes go for it’.”
Tammy then built a Facebook page and she was surprised when she was inundated with emails and bookings. She even had to release the tickets two weeks early due to high demand.
Unfortunately Tammy’s Sausage Dog Café idea was instantly so popular that it has already sold out – but do not worry – there will be further events happening later this year.
“I released the tickets in early March and in the first week I had more than 100 people coming,” Tammy laughed.
“It sold out within three weeks, I couldn’t believe it. We will be doing more events and there is already a waiting list for people who couldn’t get into the June event.”
